How to Prevent the Infection: Breaking the Cycle

Studies have shown that breaking the transmission phase of the cycle is one of the most effective ways to prevent infection.
The best way to break the transmission phase is thorough and frequent hand washing, good personal hygiene and regular cleaning and disinfection.

HAND WASHING

Hand washing is considered to be the most important measure to prevent the spread of infection. Hands can play a major role in the indirect transmission of pathogens from surfaces to susceptible hosts.

Hand washing can be done with either plain soap or antimicrobial products. Plain soaps suspends organisms and allows them to be mechanically removed by rinsing under running water. Liquid, bar leaflet or powdered soap is acceptable for hand washing. Antimicrobial products kills or inhibits the growth of micro-organisms, this process is referred to as antiseptic. Both processes are equally effective in breaking the chain of infectious disease transmission.

ALCOHOL-BASED HAND RUBS

Alcohol-asked hands rubs are fast and effective way to remove germs that may have bee picked up by touching contaminated surfaces. One should know, the rubs reduce the number of germs on your hands, but they are not as good at removing dirt from your hands. If your hands are visibly dirty, washing with soap and water is the best way to clean your hands.
